Entry Requirements
- Level 2 courses are available to people aged 19 or over, which means you'll qualify if you were born on or before 31 August 2005.
- Live in the North East? We'll verify your postcode during the application process.
- Meet residency requirements (we will help you check this).
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- You must be unemployed or earning less than £25,000 per year, whether employed or self-employed.
What you'll be studying
Understand Children and Young People’s Development
The aim of this unit is to explore holistic development. The unit will also consider effects on development and the role of the support worker to support the child and young person when concerns are raised about an individual’s development.
Understand Communication and Professional Relationships with Children, Young People and Adults
This unit provides the knowledge and understanding that underpins effective communication and professional relationships with children, young people and
adults.
Understand how play forms part of a child’s development and support ealy learning and development.
Learners will gain an understanding of the principles of child development in areas such as Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy and Expressive Arts and Design. You’ll gain an understanding of how children’s development can be positively influenced by creating positive surroundings and adult participation.
Understand Schools and Colleges as Organisations
This unit aims to prepare the learner for working in a school or college. It covers knowledge and understanding of the school and college organisational structure and function.
Understand Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Work with Children and Young People
The aim of this unit is to explore equality, diversity and inclusion. The unit will consider legislation, policy and procedure in schools and colleges to protect children and young people in a learning environment from the effects of discrimination.
Safeguarding Children and Young People
The aim of this unit is to explore holistic development. The unit will also consider effects on development and the role of the support worker to support the child and young person when concerns are raised about an individual’s development.
Understand Children and Young People’s Health and Safety
The aim of this unit is to raise an awareness of health and safety through knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures in a learning
environment.
Craft activities with young children
Learners will understand the benefits of craft activities for young children and how to ensure the health and safety when providing craft activities.
Respecting and Valuing Children
The aim of this unit is to gain an understanding of respecting and valuing children
and some knowledge of the organisations that support children’s rights.
