Having a lack of digital skills can often hinder someone’s job prospects. Most jobs in the modern workplace need at least basic IT knowledge. So what do you do if you need to improve your IT skills to get the job you want? That’s exactly the position Debra Holder was in before she came to us. After achieving two IT qualifications Debra secured full-time employment, making her our Jobseeker of the Month!
Debra came to our centre last month as she was struggling to find work due to her lack of IT qualifications. Debra had worked with computers for the past 20 years but had no formal qualifications on her CV. Due to family commitments, Debra never had the opportunity to undertake further learning before coming to us.
Whilst at our centre Debra enrolled onto the Entry Level 3 IT course to give her the basic skills and knowledge she needed to progress to a higher level. Once she had achieved this qualification she quickly moved onto the Level 1 course.
After achieving two IT qualifications Debra’s confidence began to grow. She felt more comfortable applying for jobs online as well as using computers for personal use.
“I can now actively socialise on the internet along with transferring picture files to share with friends. I can also create my yearly Christmas newsletter to share with my family!”
With her new IT skills giving her CV a boost, Debra was able to secure a full-time job as an HR Administrator at Queens Hotel. Without her new qualifications, Debra believes she wouldn’t be able to do the job she is in now.
