People in Hull will be able to choose from three unique and rewarding Industry Skills training courses at Think Employment during April.

The one-week courses are completely free to jobseekers providing they meet certain eligibility criteria. They are the ideal starting point for anyone thinking about working in sectors they currently lack skills, knowledge and qualifications in.

Starting on Monday 1st April is a Care workshop that delivers practical skills, sector-specific knowledge and a standard DBS check which is highly sought after by employers and will add real value to a jobseeker’s CV. Also, as part of the workshop, Avocet Trust will come into the learning centre to explain about working in the sector and talk about job opportunities within their organisation. The Care learners who apply for the roles in Avocet Trust will also be offered an interview.

After the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, on Tuesday 23rd April there’s a 4-day Customer Service workshop that provides people with important skills and knowledge for a career in the sector. With customer service skills required in numerous professions including retail, hospitality and administration, it’s a great pre-employment course for people who’d like to keep their career choices open.

Then finally on Monday 29th April, they are running a Retail course which allows jobseekers the opportunity to keep up to date with the skills needed to work in the fast-paced industry that is constantly changing and adapting. The training includes chance to gain a Health & Safety in the workplace qualification which is often a prerequisite for roles in the retail sector.

“These courses are a great stepping stone for anyone with little or no work experience in a chosen sector because they gain sector specific knowledge and a recognised Level 1 qualifications,” said Helen Umpleby, Think Employment’s Lead Learner Recruiter.

“People are more than welcome to take more than one course because many of the skills you will learn are easily transferable.”

“We speak to local employers – like Avocet Trust – about job vacancies and voluntary placements all the time so our learners have the opportunity to find work or hone their newfound skills and gain the confidence required to move into employment.”

In addition to all of these great pre-employment courses on offer in April, people who enrol on a Think Employment workshop will also benefit from their ‘into work support service’ and receive CV assistance, interview preparation and help applying for jobs. This service has helped more than 50,000 people boost their chances of finding work and since 2003 and almost 5,000 in the last 12 months.

To be able to receive these courses free of charge, people need to be over the age of 19, lived in the UK or EU for the last three years and in receipt of a work-related benefit. Alternatively, people in employment who earn less than £15,736pa can also receive the training fully funded as long as they can attend the full five-day course.
