The Collaborative Solution: Skills Bootcamp in HGV Driving​

A key part of our GLA partnership is the Skills Bootcamp in HGV Driving. This intensive programme provides a focused training pathway, leveraging GLA Funding and the Adult Education Budget London to make careers in logistics accessible. The Bootcamp covers everything from theory tests and HGV driving regulations to practical skills like safe loading procedures and techniques for fuel efficiency, preparing learners thoroughly for both their tests and the demands of the industry.

Leon's Journey: Starting a HGV Career

Background & Goal

Leon was looking for a practical and direct way to kick-start a career in the logistics industry and saw the GLA-funded Skills Bootcamp in HGV Driving as the ideal opportunity to make the move.

The Experience

Leon found the whole process very straightforward, from the easy enrolment to the informative and interactive online sessions. He found the trainers particularly good—they were approachable and engaging and shared their real-world driving experiences, which really helped give him a genuine feel for the job. The online learning platform was also simple to access and use throughout the course.

The Outcome

Leon felt the course prepared him for the next steps and opened his eyes to the profession. Key achievements included:

  • Successfully prepared for and booked his theory and practical tests without issues.

Background & Goal

Borhane already had valuable experience as a bus driver but wanted to specialise further and build a career specifically within the HGV sector. He saw the GLA-funded Skills Bootcamp in HGV Driving as the perfect pathway to this progression.

The Experience

Borhane found the training excellent. He particularly praised the trainers for their great communication and helpfulness (even outside normal session times) and for sharing valuable industry insights from their own careers. He felt confident that all the necessary topics for the tests and the demands of the industry were fully covered. Importantly, the support extended beyond driving knowledge, as the Think Employment team also provided practical help with preparing his CV for his job search.

The Outcome

Borhane left the Bootcamp equipped with HGV knowledge and clear next steps for his career progression. Key achievements included:

  • Developing a clear plan to gain experience via agency work before securing a permanent role.
