Starting Monday 21st January, we are running a one-week Retail workshop in our Grimsby centre aimed at people who have limited or no experience in the sector.
The workshop is the ideal starting point as learners will receive two work-related qualifications and a bonus Health and Safety qualification which is desirable for all employers.
Why work in Retail?
Retail is a fast-paced industry that is constantly changing and adapting. Working in retail allows you to gain a variety of skills such as customer service, cash handling, stock management and order processing, which are transferable skills useful for all customer-facing roles.
The retail industry employs around 2.9m people in the UK. In Grimsby alone, 3,613 retail jobs were advertised in the last year. It’s a growing sector for entry-level jobs with the average wage for the sector £14,771 per year.

Level 1 Award in Introduction to Employment in Retail
This qualification will provide you with the basic knowledge and understanding to work in Retail. This qualification will help those who are new to the workplace or returners to work who wish to build their confidence and gain an understanding of the Retail environment.
Level 1 in Equality and Diversity
This qualification looks at British Values and helps people understand the differences between equality and diversity. Learners will explore stereotypes, discrimination and prejudice and be able to identify the bodies who work on these equality issues.
Health and Safety
Health and safety training is important in the workplace as it will educate employees on proper workplace procedures, practices, and behaviour to prevent possible injuries.
After learners have completed their Vacancy-led Skills Programme in Retail, they will be eligible to receive a Health & Safety in the Workplace qualification which will boost their chances of gaining employment in the sector.
Are you eligible?
To apply for this course you need to be over 19 and have lived in the UK or EU for the last three consecutive years (since April 2015).
You either need to be unemployed looking for work and on a work-related benefit, or be employed but earning less than £15,760. Eligibility will be determined at our Information Advice and Guidance appointment.
