You can’t have a birthday without cake. So we surprised our long-term employee Tim Grant with a Red Velvet cake to celebrate 14 years with us.
We have put together an exclusive interview with Tim to gather the inside scoop on working for Think Employment. He reflects on his time with us and shares some of his favourite memories.
Background info
Tim has basically been a tutor his entire life. He gained both his IT and teaching qualifications whilst he worked as a factory operative in Sleaford. Before he joined us, he was a swim teacher and a tutor at Newark and Sherwood College which he continued to work part-time at when he joined us in 2004. He has been the Lead Tutor at our Lincoln and Doncaster centres and has most recently moved to our Grimsby HQ office.
He has witnessed the company grow throughout the years and has seen it transform from Business Advice Direct to in2wrk and now to Think Employment. So with this wealth of experience, what does he truly think?
What has been the biggest challenge?
When I asked him what his biggest challenge was he initially described moving from the Lincoln centre to Doncaster in 2006. However, it soon became one of his biggest successes.
“My biggest challenge was moving to Doncaster initially, but I managed to turn it around and increase achievements and completion rates”.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Being passionate about tutoring, it’s not a surprise what his answer was.
“It has always been my favourite thing, seeing learners achieve and knowing they will reach their goals and get the qualifications they need”.
What is one of your favourite memories?
During the last 14 years, he has encountered a lot of different learners, but the one who stood out most was a Doncaster learner with an unusual hobby.
“There once was a learner in our Doncaster centre who as part of his English speaking and listening assessment brought up the fact his hobby was collecting animals. The next day he showed up with a snake around his neck, I loved it but the other learners were wary. The following day he brought in his tarantula”.
So what’s next for Tim?
“Moving forward, I would like to make Grimsby office the best performing centre”.
Tim can be found at our Grimsby centre located at 140 Victoria St S, DN31 1NX.
