A cohort of Think Employment learners got the chance to learn how to make the perfect cup of coffee, due to our partnership with 200 Degrees Coffee.
The learners who completed a pre-employment training course in Hospitality earlier this month visited the coffee-making experts this week to receive their training.
The idea behind the partnership was to equip people who want to work in Hospitality with sought after skills and qualifications. And knowing how to make an expresso or latte could be the difference between someone getting an interview or work trial for a Hospitality position or being completely over looked.
In 2019 having barista machine experience is now a big advantage when you’re looking for work. In the not so recent past, when you thought of a ‘barista’, you’d probably have a mental picture of someone in a pair of dungarees and with a handlebar moustache. But now supermarkets, big department stores and even fast-food chains like McDonalds are recruiting people who have been trained to make various types of coffees.
During 200 Degrees Coffee’s Basic Barista Training, people are taught about the history of coffee, where certain beans come from and the differences between them. They also get shown by an experienced barista how to make an expresso and a latte – the two most popular forms of coffee around the planet – and get some hands on experience making them with a proper barista machine.
In all, six of our Hospitality learners (plus two members of the Think Employment team) received the fun and informative training and now have the skills and the knowledge to further explore becoming a fully trained barista, should they wish to.
Think Employment and 200 Degrees Coffee will once again partner up to offer the chance for people to receive both Hospitality and Barista skills in March. The one-week Hospitality workshop will take place on Monday 25th March at our St David’s Court training centre before progressing on to the one-day training course at 200 Degrees Coffee in Leeds city.
