Primary Teaching Assistant Course

Course Description

This Level 2 course has been designed to give you the skills you need to work with and support children and young people in an educational setting. It can apply to the many varied roles that full and part time support staff may fulfil, including administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles, and volunteers, as well as roles that work directly with children and young people in the learning environment.

Within this qualification, learners will focus on the role of a teaching assistant. They will be introduced to the knowledge they need to work in a range of learning environments, with a particular focus on primary school roles. The Caring for Children and Young People section of this course has an emphasis on activities appropriate for young children, making this an excellent course for those interested in working in key stage 1 or 2 teaching assistant roles. Over the duration of this course, learners will improve their knowledge of how to effectively communicate with and develop professional relationships with children, young people, and adults, as well as gaining an understanding of how to respect and value children as individuals. Learners will also look at identifying the stages of development in children and young people and how play can be a positive influence on them. Learners will also gain insight into craft activities, health and safety legislation, the importance of safeguarding and child welfare, and equality, diversity, and inclusion in work with children and young people.

This Level 2 course is knowledge-based, so classroom experience isn’t necessary to complete the qualification. Assessments are integrated into the programme, so there’s no need to worry about the stress of a final exam. On completion of this course, you will receive the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges and the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate Introducing Caring for Children and Young People.
