Our functional skills courses are accessible online at any time to suit your needs however there are two mandatory live sessions per week so you can receive advice from the tutor and discuss how we can further support you to gain your qualification.

Functional Skills English Level 1 is a nationally recognised qualification, accredited by awarding bodies including; AQA, City & Guilds, Edexcel, OCR, Open Awards and Pearson.

It will help prepare you for Functional Skills English Level 2, which is equivalent to a GCSE English pass grade.

Do you need a GCSE English pass grade or to apply for jobs, access higher education or complete an apprenticeship? Level 1 Functional Skills English is an important stepping stone to Level 2 English which is equivalent to a GCSE English pass grade.

Course Modules

With your Functional Skills English Level 1, you will be ready to move onto your Level 2 Functional Skills English Qualification.

Having your Functional Skills English (or GCSE equivalent) qualification is vital for many careers and could help you to progress into the career you want, as many careers require a basic level of maths and English.

Your Functional Skills qualification will also enable you to continue your education as it is a requirement for many further education courses, especially at degree level.

Is this course 100% online?

Yes, the course is 100% online but there are two mandatory live sessions per week which you’ll need to attend.

Can I go on to Level 2 after completing this course?

If you pass the level 1 Functional Skills then yes you can.  You would still need to do the initial assessment for the level 2 course just as you would for the Level 1.
